The role of the actuary
Actuaries, professionals specialising in the analysis and treatment of financial impacts of risk, offer mathematical models designed to estimate :
- The evolution of uncertain future events, such as the human lifespan or the frequency and pecuniary losses arising from accidents.
- The pricing of varied and/or specific risks, the assessment of financial products and the optimisation of investment and reinsurance policies.
The actuary must master financial tools as well as the legal, accounting, fiscal and commercial aspects of the fields in which he or she is involved.
